Hello there, everyone. It's been quite a while since we last had an announcement, however this one comes with some rather important news in regards to staffing changes.

As some of you may have heard, we've had a couple of staff who have decided that, due to factors I'm sure they'd be willing to share if appropriate, they'll be stepping down with almost immediate effect. Those moderators are:
    - @Dragmirejr
    - @Sane
I'd like to thank both of them for all the time and effort they've been able to put in to the staff team and the communities surrounding them, and wish them the best of luck in future endeavors, wherever that may take them.

So that leaves the question of who's going to be replacing those particular staff. The MKBoards Staff team have decided this time not to have an application process and to instead recruit based upon suggestions and past experience, and thus I'd like everyone to congratulate @Markness on obtaining a moderator position again. For those who don't know, Markness was a moderator in the past, in fact quite a veteran with his experience, and so hopefully such experience and expertise can justify the decision staff made to appoint him as opposed to opening public applications at this current moment in time.

Also, just before we all forget, Mario Kart World Cup's section and their matching World Cup Staff Applications section will be made public within the next few days, so once that's up feel free to check it out and read any of the important threads.

Feel free to congratulate and thank the members listed above within this thread, as well as giving constructive suggestions based upon any recent actions. Obviously this announcement will be moderated like any other, so please stay within the realms of sensibility where possible.

Want to say thank you to @Sane and @Dragmirejr for their time and efforts while on staff team, was a pleasure.

Delighted that I get the chance to specify Mark (Not Markness) again. xD team runs the boards.

wb Markness. I do want to ask though, does the MKWii community still not want the WC for mkwii? I've been hearing that around a lot.

What I'm personally going to look to do is to, upon having the section open, immediately open the opportunity up for teams to move over and/or post threads in the section. The hope is that even if some of the main teams fail to apply, we do actually have a growing community on the site so the chances are an event can still be pulled, and obviously by opening the section as early as this week, we give teams 3 months to see the changes we intend to make before any form of deadline. If teams don't sign up, we simply won't run it, but even then the MK8D area will run fine.

While the best players signing up would attract the most views for MKW, I don't see the problem with a less-skilled group of players making a national team if the original team is not interested.

It's a community event, not an elitist event.

If there still are not enough teams, just don't run the event like you said. It's that simple.

Yes @Markness !!!!! OG Bop Squad will live on!

Just wanted to thank my friend @Dragmirejr for all the work he has done for this site, not just for the forums but for MKU as well. No one is as personable as you and I wish more people recognized your value as a person and as a member of a team. You have made a difference and I'm sorry other people's arrogance got in the way of that continuing.

This logic only applies to certain (the bigger) countries. For example the original team Italy isn't interested in playing this year's WC, though I know there are a couple of the less skilled group of players that has been trying to recruit 6k VR people (whose age is usually 15 or lower) wanting to play. Considering who the supposed recruits are, and given the 2 people trying to achieve this are someone spending his life shitposting on mkb 24/7 and the other one is the worst team rep in CTD2, as much as I don't like elitism, hell no I wouldn't want that team to take part to such an event and represent my country, would just cause problems to every team trying to play matches against them.

In the situation you described, I agree.
But I'm talking more along the lines of USA2 playing for USA1 if USA1 wasn't interested.

Not to sound like an asshole but do you think people are even going to bother watching if its like two division 5 national teams going at it? There's low level gameplay being broadcasted as a high-level competition.

I think the NA v EU event is a better solution than running a world cup with lower ranked players.

I sound like Jeff rn but its the truth, people will watch D1-2 level gameplay over someone struggling strats in d5 wearing the USA tag

You're implying D5 will sign up, what if it's D2 or D3 instead of D1? Is it really going to make THAT much of a difference?

Wouldn't be as much as a difference in Wii than it would 8D (from what I've seen in both games, mkwii's skill ceiling has more people near it atm than 8D's does).

Going from D1 to D2 that is.

there is a Huge with a capital h difference between d1 and d2

i dont see a problem with it going ahead even if the average skill level is d5, maybe you just brand it differently, its just for fun after all
