Hey there, few changes to announce.

First of all, @Markness has decided to step down from his role as moderator, Mark was our longest serving staff member by far and was an excellent mod over the duration of his stay. Myself and all of the mod team wish him the best in his future endeavours.

With that being said the admins discussed this and decided we would be looking for another mod to fill the gap left by Mark and possibly pick up some of the leftover slack from our recent surge in numbers. As Mark was primarily a Mk8 and MK7 focused mod we would ideally be looking for someone who plays these games, however we will also accept applications from those who don't play them but feel they would be able to fill this general role.

Second order of business, a new infraction ruleset.

This ruleset was developed by @Dragmirejr and aims to fix several of the problems with the old infractions system.

    Minor Offenses:
    1 Point

    Moderate Offenses:
    4 Points + 1 week ban

    Major Offenses:
    7 Points + 2 week ban

Something very severe: (Prolonged Harassment / Pornography etc.)
    10-14 points + 2-3 months ban

    Something Illegal:
    15 points + permanent ban

    What accumulation of points equals:
passing 8 points after the points are given doubles ban lengths.
passing 11 points after the points are given quadrouples ban lengths.
15 points = indefinite or permanent ban

The reason behind this change was primarily that there were several occasions where we felt a week ban was appropriate for an offense, but this would sometimes require giving people 10 infraction points in order to reach the required number. This was not the most effective system and we hope with the new system we will be able to make decisions quicker and with more accuracy.

Oh ya also for anyone that didn't notice, we have removed the Tournament Organisers role.

Thanks for the work over the years Mark, it'll be weird to not see you as a staff member on the site now honestly. If you're done with the site in general, best of luck out there. Seeing the commitment you put into DY, I'm sure you'll do well.

This being said, just want to throw out the question, do we need more moderators? Rather than adding more, it may be a good time to see if we can take what we have and maybe improve efficiency and get the current staff even more involved. At this point in time I'm starting to wonder if recruiting every time someone leaves is healthy. It seems like we're starting to create an in and out type of cycle and because x person doesn't like x policy / people it demotivates them and they step down, so we have to look for more. Perhaps it's time for a new approach to change things up a bit.

This times a bajillion. Time for my own Stunky-style response. And just like Stunky, I have put probably way too much time and effort into this post, but I expect people to read it anyways. If that didn't captivate you in the first few sentences, I'm probably doing this right (no offense Stunky, your paragraphs are merciless to read).

Yes I'm making this public, because I know there are others who probably agree and it is a legitimate concern that I carry. If I tried to voice it within our staff team, it would be pushed away or ignored (not joking, stuff of this magnitude has magically escaped others before).

When your moderator of 3 years steps down, it will be almost impossible finding someone to fill his place, it should not even be an expectation. It won't happen, and if it ever comes close, it will not ever 100% fill that gap. It's those moderators and staff members that have watched the entire staff turnover thrice that should be getting promotions. They've earned it, and they have more experience than the entire staff team combined, including the entire Administrator team. Instead you now have a mod who's been here for a tiny fraction of said time moving up. This is not even the first time in the past little while it's happened, it's the second and hasn't even been consistent. The first time wasn't even a vote, it literally came out of nowhere. It's not only demotivating, it is a horrible feeling for those who put in all the work we do for nothing. Apparently, we don't even get the trust of our fellow team members. There shouldn't have even been a vote, given the time some have sunk in, that role should have been literally handed to them for good measure, or at least some kind of fancy role. It's not even the policies we have in place (okay, I'll admit maybe some), there is legitimately no reason to stay other than to put in work.

Have you considered that this is why people leave the staff team, because there's no incentive to stay? I can count a few who have done it for that exact reason, and most have been some of the most valuable staff members we've had in the community.

On top of that, sure we have people dropping, but the people still in the team are affected. Is recruiting someone new going to fix that? Maybe. Unlikely. Work with what you got first, fix those problems, because patching the holes with some fresh blood isn't going to do the trick. You're going to have bits and pieces with no cohesion. For most leaders and managers on this site, this is common knowledge, even in the clanning aspect of things which isn't even touching on staff.

Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I think whoever it is will do a good job as an admin.

Staff being a beauty pageant is making people tired. It's so visible and predictable, I can't even pretend this isn't happening, that's not how I roll and as a mod I think this, point blank, is one of the largest issues we have. We can guess exactly who will move up, and it's not always for the right reasons. People have lost faith in us to make proper decisions. But of course, I have to keep quiet because others find it offensive even if its the truth. It's for the better, they said. It helps the image of the site, they said. This message will probably be the most atrocious thing posted on the boards despite people posting gore, scat, pornography, pictures of other people and the list goes on because heaven forbid that we speak our minds to people and not just attempt to satiate and impress. Our priorities are convoluted. The truth hurts sometimes and if there's any group that needs to handle some criticism and be transparent with our community and not just pat us on the head and say "it's okay, move along now", it's the Moderators and Administrators. We are the future of this frigging site.

This is the reality of being a staff member. Many previous staff members know the feeling, have regretted joining staff in the first place, many have dropped for this or a similar reason. We've burnt through all of the members of this community who have sunk literal years into this place only to be replaced by others who may never put in the same amount of work (again, I don't even mean you, you're one of the rare gems left and I'm legitimately surprised you aren't burnt out from everything else you've done. You're a god in your own way). No, I'm not salty that I personally didn't get it despite being in the running, but I'm very, very confused.

    That aside.

Markness, you will be greatly missed and I don't think anyone has worked harder than you have on Moderator Staff. whoever gets it, for the love of god, please make this trade worth it. No pressure or anything, but at this point, going to be as honest as I always am and don't take it personally because it's not about that here, I have extremely high expectations moving forward. We have lost the largest Tank in the team I've ever seen since Uncle Pyro left the site, the 2014 Mod Team which was arguably the best group we had going, is done.

R.I.P. Bop Squad. We've lost our final link, our blue Power Ranger.

Deleting posts because you're worried about your image / being criticized over the sake of the site is the exact type of mentality that is driving things downhill. It's why I stepped down, on top of school stress. We know everyone here is human, so just get off your high horses. We're all wrong sometimes. Nothing on this site will change unless people speak out like that, and it'll continue to go slightly downhill as more and more resources that we have in our community join the mod team, feel pressured to make decisions that look "good" instead of doing something more ballsy when they genuinely think its the right choice, and then leave because they feel they can't change anything. I wasn't the only one either.

I'm not trying to offend someone, but if someone is removed from the mod team for hav1ng the courage to come out and say that we need change, then clearly nothing has changed.

I don't get why exactly the post was deleted considering it was laid out with a purpose and did not insult anyone specifically. Just a fellow person on staff trying to help; nothing wrong with that

Post was deleted because it broke staff guidelines related to leaking information from staff chat that had not been made public yet. It was not deleted for any other reason.

With that said then, I guess I'll be expecting increased efficiency in the near future.

Regardless, if what was said was true, that was an incredibly convenient time to be ready to drop a staff removal, when activity is questioned.

    Best of luck.
